Halloween 2017
When is too old to Trick-or-treat? I'm not sure. I can't remember but I think I was around 7th grade when I last set foot in a race with other hood rats for some precious loot. A race to collect apples that smelled like pot, sticky Jolly Ranchers, coins, weird food that had to be thrown out and the ever threatening candy that might be laden with a hidden needle. Oh, the 70's were truly interesting. The strangest thing I've heard of receiving in a candy hunt was what a friend's kid received THIS YEAR. A used lipstick tube in the bag. Not just used, but rolled all the way up to the top, used red tube of lipstick. I'm hoping that person was touched. with dementia.
When is too old to Trick-or-treat? Each year, I keep asking the girls if this is their last year. I mean you could technically have your own kids right now, so, done? Yet? Hell no. They don't care if others are too cool to trick and they aren't just into the treats. They plan their costumes basically the day AFTER Halloween. Eighteen renditions are thought up and planned, but usually don't make it to the chopping block. We then rush at the last minute to dress as our obsession of the moment. This part of the game makes me super tired.
When is too old to Trick-or-treat? Don't ask my 14-year-old. She lives to dress up and be a kid. 14 sucks ass in her book. She hates 9th grade. Thinks all the kids around her are fake assholes. I have to say, they are. Think back to being 14 and unless you were some super hot-shit wonder, didn't it suck donkey balls? Overwhelmingly, yes!
I willingly went to seven different stores for last minute dress-up ideas. Because ,14 sucks. 12 isn't a whole lot of shits and giggles either. Mainly because every year I say, "this is going to be the last year of the kid-like Halloween. I'm sad they are growing up so fast! I want another baby to dress up in these cute outfits." I then talk myself down and pop another Lexapro because my anxiety is the bomb lately!
Alas, babies don't grow on trees and they aren't baby dolls to dress-up for photo ops. My girls aren't little, but they will always be my little babes. My babes trying to grow up, but not-so-fast. I'm totally cool with them slowing this train down. Finding the breaks is really hard for me when I can't seem to balance myself due to the overwhelming speed of this jarring ride.
I think we went out in High School. They look great. Hope they had a fun time!

SO many worse things they could be doing than trick or treating...as long as they are courteous and respectful...I am happy to provide treats to teens for as long as they want.
